A 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit Tibet’s Xigaze city that killed nearly 95 people leaving 130 injured. Tremors were felt across neighbouring countries including Nepal, Bhutan, and India.
As per the regional disaster relief headquarters, the quake affected Dingri County in Xigaze, which is located in Tibet Autonomous Region in China at 9:05 am Tuesday (Beijing Time). Reuters reported that the quake had a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).
In India, tremors were felt across Delhi-NCR regions and northern areas including Bihar.

1. As per United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck at 6.35 am, 93 km northeast of Lobuche, near the Nepal-Tibet border.
2. The epicentre is located at regions where India and Eurasia plates clash and cause uplifts in the Himalayan mountains, which has potential to change the heights of world’s tallest peaks.
3. The earthquake hit Dingri County in Tibet with a magnitude of 6.8 near the border with Nepal at 9:05 am (0105 GMT), China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) said.
4. A handful of people stayed within 5 kilometres (3 miles) from the epicentre, which is 380 kilometres (240 miles) from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet.
5. Today’s earthquake turned out to be the most powerful one recorded within a 200-kilometre radius in the last five years.
