Delhi Hit by 4.0-Magnitude Earthquake; NCR Residents Feel the Impact

New Delhi, An earthquake of 4.0 magnitudes shook areas of Delhi-NCR in the early hours of Monday morning, according to the National Center for Seismology said.

The quake, which had its epicentre located in New Delhi, struck at the depth of five kilometers in the morning at 5:36, the agency stated in a blog post on X.

The epicentre was close to Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, an official informed PTI.

The region, which is home to the lake in close proximity and a lake, has experienced smaller, low-magnitude earthquakes every three to four years. The region recorded an earthquake that was 3.3 magnitude last year, the spokesman said.

A loud noise was heard as the earthquake struck the ground, according to an official.

In a blog post in a post X, The Delhi Police stated, "We hope you all are safe, Delhi!"

It also encouraged people to contact the emergency number 112 in case of emergencies.

The tremors that were triggered by the tremors forced the residents of high-rises within Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad to evacuate their home.

Images from PTI Videos showed residents waiting in the streets in Delhi-NCR, afraid of any subsequent shock.

Naresh Kumar, who is a local from West Delhi, said this was the first time the tremor was as intense tremor.

Ratanlal Sharma, who was waiting at the New Delhi railway station for the train to Prayagraj said that he was on the platform when there was a sudden jolt.

The resident at a towering building in Ghaziabad reported that the shaking was so powerful that people went downstairs in fear.

A leader Atishi told X that "A strong earthquake just hit Delhi. I pray to God that everyone is safe."

Resharing the post of Atishi, A chief Arvind Kejriwal stated that he was praying for the safety of everyone.
