New Delhi, December 2: Farmers from Uttar Pradesh, led by organizations including the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), initiated a protest march to Delhi on Monday, resulting in widespread traffic disruptions across the National Capital Region (NCR). The march, organized under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), follows failed negotiations with district authorities on Sunday.

The farmers are demanding several reforms, primarily focused on securing a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Other demands include fair compensation for land acquired over the years and the allocation of developed plots to those impacted by government projects. This protest coincides with the Winter Session of Parliament, where the farmers hope to bring attention to their grievances and seek legislative solutions.

The march began at the Maha Maya flyover in Noida at noon, with participants moving towards Delhi on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Large contingents of farmers on tractors, along with other vehicles, have slowed traffic significantly.

To manage the situation, authorities have implemented stringent security measures across Delhi-NCR including deployment of over 5,000 police officers and 1,000 Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel. Barricades have been set up at major border crossings, including Chilla and Kalindi Kunj, where thorough vehicle inspections are underway. Advisories have been issued, urging commuters to avoid affected routes and opt for alternate paths. Further, water cannons have been deployed as a precautionary measure to handle potential escalations.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Noida) Shivhari Meena confirmed that a three-tier security plan has been put in place to ensure public safety while facilitating the protest march.

Meanwhile, morning rush hour traffic has been severely impacted, with delays reported on major routes connecting Noida and Delhi. Key entry points like Chilla border have witnessed gridlocks, leaving commuters frustrated despite advance warnings.

The march is part of a larger series of protests planned by farmer organizations. Earlier in October, groups like the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee announced plans to march to Delhi, focusing on demands including MSP guarantees. With ongoing protests and additional rallies expected, the movement is likely to intensify.

Authorities have urged commuters to stay updated on traffic advisories and use alternative routes to avoid disruptions.
