Delhi Development: PM Modi Unveils ₹600 Cr DU Projects, Housing
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate multiple development projects in Delhi on Friday, highlighting initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life in the city. Announcing the day’s significance, PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Today is an important day for Delhi's development. At a programme in Ashok Vihar, will be inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for a wide range of development works which will boost 'Ease of Living' for the people of Delhi.”
Among the projects to be unveiled are 1,675 newly constructed flats in Ashok Vihar, designed to house residents from JJ (Jhuggi Jhopri) clusters. These flats aim to improve living standards for economically weaker sections. The prime minister will also inaugurate the World Trade Centre (WTC) at Nauroji Nagar, the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar, and an Integrated Office Complex for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Dwarka.
PM Modi will also lay foundation stones for three significant projects under Delhi University, collectively valued at Rs 600 crore. These include Eastern Campus at Surajmal Vihar, Western Campus at Dwarka, and Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh.
The proposed Veer Savarkar College, named after the right-wing ideologue, has sparked political debates. While the Congress has criticized the move, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of glorifying individuals who submitted mercy petitions during British rule, the BJP has defended the initiative, asserting that the Congress focuses on disparaging notable figures.
The development projects come amid a politically charged atmosphere. Delhi University’s student leadership, currently under the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), has also drawn attention. The BJP’s ideological association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) further intensifies the debate surrounding the Veer Savarkar College. These initiatives are expected to contribute significantly to Delhi’s infrastructure and educational landscape.
