Due to heavy rain from Cyclone Dana, several flights at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata were halted for about 14 hours.
Present Status:
Bhubaneswar Airport: Flights resumed at 8 AM on October 25. It started an hour earlier than initially planned for 9 AM.
Kolkata Airport: Operations were suspended from Thursday evening. The last flight landed at 6:11 PM and the final departure at 7 PM.
Weather Conditions:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Cyclone Dana made landfall on the Odisha coast late Thursday night.
It’s currently moving north-northwest and is expected to weaken by Friday morning. Light to moderate rain is expected in many areas, with heavier rainfall in northern Odisha.
Airline Information:
Airlines like IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet have updated passengers about flight suspensions and the resumption of services.
"The Severe Cyclonic Storm “DANA” is very likely to move north-northwestwards and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha) during mid-night of 24th to morning of 25th October, 2024 as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph. As a result isolated extremely heavy rainfall is very likely over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal on 24th & 25th October 2024," read a post on IMD, as it predicts weather forecast.
