Controversial Fashion Show in Gulmarg During Ramzan Sparks Outrage

A fashion show was held in Jammu and Kashmir during the fasting month of Ramzan, which sparked outrage for being deemed obscene. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed understanding for the public's shock and anger, especially since the event took place in the ski resort of Gulmarg.
Photos from the show, featuring models in skimpy outfits, went viral online, drawing criticism from political and religious figures. Critics argue that the event undermines the state's cultural values.
Chief Minister Abdullah called for a report on the matter within 24 hours and assured that action would be taken. He stated, "The shock and anger are understandable. The images I’ve seen show a disregard for local sensitivities, especially during this holy month."
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chief priest of Srinagar’s Jama Masjid, also condemned the event, calling it “outrageous.” He stressed that such displays of obscenity, especially during Ramzan, would not be tolerated in a valley known for its deep religious traditions.
Social activist Raja Muzaffar Bhat also criticized the event, questioning who authorized the fashion show. He accused it of attempting to undermine the region’s moral, ethical, cultural, and religious values.
