India's military advisor, Colonel Ashish Bhalla, emphasised India's significant role in peacekeeping and peacebuilding at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
He highlighted the importance of education in preventing conflicts and building resilience, stating, "Education is crucial for sustaining peace."
Colonel Bhalla noted India's extensive engagement in peace-building through partnerships with Global South countries, where developmental projects exceed USD 40 billion.
He praised the Peacebuilding Commission's 2023 report for its forward-looking agenda and support for regional peace initiatives like the Luanda and Nairobi processes.
He also commended the Commission's focus on women's participation in decision-making and inclusive security sector reforms.
Colonel Bhalla acknowledged Croatia and Brazil for their leadership of the Commission and highlighted the India UN Development Partnership Fund as a testament to India's commitment to global development.
Regarding the Peacebuilding Commission's role, Colonel Bhalla emphasised its critical function in post-conflict recovery and preventing conflict relapses.
He finished his speech by reaffirming India's commitment to peacebuilding and readiness to contribute constructively to future peacebuilding reviews.
