Vijayawada: All arrangements are completed for unveiling of Dr BR Ambedkar’s 125-ft tall statue and the Ambedkar Smriti Vanam developed in an area of 20 acres here on January 19.
The government has spent around 400 crore. The statue of the architect of the Indian Constitution is installed on an 80-ft base structure. The statue is said to be the tallest in India.
The project was mooted during the erstwhile TDP government. It was shelved by the YSRCP government and a new project was announced by naming it as Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Park. The project has a 3,000-seater convention hall, museum, mini theatre, library and other facilities.
In a post shared on X, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who will unveil the statue and inaugurate the memorial park, said the statue will be known as the statue of social justice. “To rewrite history, inspire others for hundreds of years, I request everyone to come voluntarily for the unveiling of the statue on the 19th of this month,” he said.
