Amaravati: TDP-led NDA Government in Andhra Pradesh has ordered a CID probe into liquor policy implemented by the YSRCP rule allegedly causing a loss of Rs 18,860.51 crore to the exchequer by promoting unknown brands with inferior quality and seek the support of Enforcement Directorate (ED) to find out the shady transactions.

While adopting the white paper prepared by the coalition government that came to power on June 12, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that 38 unknown brands were promoted to fill the pockets of several ruling party bigwigs and termed it as a ‘very big liquor scam’ in the history of the State. He said the probe will also ascertain the facts with regard to health ailments caused during the YSRCP rule due to consumption of inferior quality liquor. He said the consumption came down after a steep increase in prices.

Welcoming the decision, Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan accused former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of enacting a drama by taking recourse to a ‘vanishing game’ to stage a dharna in New Delhi so as to avoid embarrassment at the time of presenting the white paper. He said no matter how big one is, he or she has to be punished as per law for commissions and omissions committed when they were in power.
