The Indian Army successfully neutralized three terrorists in J&K's Akhnoor sector on Monday after they attacked an ambulance in an Army convoy. On Tuesday, the Army revealed that the operation's success was due to the use of unmanned vehicles and artificial intelligence (AI).

“We employed unmanned vehicles and AI, which resulted in a quick and successful outcome,” stated Major General Sameer Shrivastava, GoC of the 10 Infantry Division, during a briefing. He also mentioned the sacrifice of the Army's sniffer dog, Phantom, who was killed in action while protecting troops. “Phantom's sacrifice saved many lives,” he added.

Phantom, a four-year-old sniffer dog, sustained fatal bullet injuries during the counter-terror operations. Officials praised his bravery and his crucial role in the operation.

Addressing rumors, Major General Shrivastava clarified, “There were reports that we used BMP vehicles. We did use such vehicles due to the challenging terrain, which included a 30-degree gradient and dense forest. These vehicles helped us reach the militants’ location.”

Army jawans maintained vigilance at the encounter site for two days following the initial attack on the ambulance. The coordinated search effort involved both Jammu and Kashmir police and Indian security forces, ensuring the area was swiftly sealed off.

The quick response from the security forces, aided by intelligence from local villagers, prevented the terrorists from achieving their intended goal. “The terrorists were heavily armed, indicating a major plan. Our preparation and coordination with intelligence agencies were crucial in thwarting their plans,” Major General Shrivastava noted.

The anti-terror operation was part of Operation Asan, a counter-offensive launched by Indian security forces after the terrorists attacked the Army convoy in the Battal area. The terrorists’ attack on the ambulance prompted an immediate and coordinated retaliation from the security forces.

The use of advanced technology, such as unmanned vehicles and AI, played a significant role in the operation's success, demonstrating the Indian Army's evolving strategies in counter-terrorism efforts.
