AP Guv showcases welfare agenda in budget address

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice S Abdul Nazeer on Monday presented the customary address to the Budget session of the Assembly highlighting the development agenda of the YSRCP government. The address was protested by Opposition TDP members who later staged a walkout in protest of negligence of Polavaram Irrigation Project. The budget will be presented by Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath on February 7.
The Governor in his address outlined the achievements of the State government over the past year. He said the government is investing liberally in people by taking up several welfare schemes. He said the government is successful in facilitating reduced energy costs by providing daytime current to agricultural pumps and free electricity for nine hours.
He said the State is constructing 22 lakh houses under ‘Houses for All’ scheme, with nine lakh already provided. Referring to various welfare schemes, he said the State implemented various programs like Jagananna Chedodu, Jagananna Todu, YSR Kalyanamastu, and YSR Pension Kanuka, offering financial assistance and support to diverse groups. On women empowerment, the Governor said the State is supporting women through YSR Asara and YSR Kapu Nestham schemes, focusing on financial inclusion and empowerment.
