Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has predicted the emergence of Visakhapatnam as the maritime gateway in the near future and narrated how the State Government is trying to make it the financial capital as well as technology, pharma and tourism hub.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the Operational Demonstration of the Eastern Naval Command on the Beach Road with a laser-cum-drone show as a special attraction during the New Year on Saturday evening.

The Chief Minister said: "Just as Mumbai is the financial capital of the country, Visakhapatnam is the financial capital for Andhra Pradesh. In the coming days, Visakhapatnam will emerge as a major city. We will transform it into the tourism capital. With ports and upcoming airports, including the largest Gangavaram Port, Bhogapuram Airport will be completed in a year. Metro rail work will also begin soon."

Naidu said there are plenty of opportunities to develop the State into a maritime gateway. Google has signed an agreement with the State government to set up a data centre in Visakhapatnam, and TCS is also planning investments here. Several other IT companies are also looking to set up their units in Visakhapatnam. On January 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Visakhapatnam to lay the foundation stone for the new railway zone. The first green hydrogen project will be launched with a joint venture between NTPC-APGENCO.
