Visakhapatnam Charts Ambitious Path To Double Its GDP Contribution By 2027

Visakhapatnam: With Visakhapatnam being identified as a growth hub by NITI Aayog, consultants are working to identify potential investment areas to boost regional economic growth, according to District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad.

He affirmed that once the initiatives launched by NITI Aayog and smart city project materialise, Visakhapatnam will emerge as a major economic and urban hub.

As part of Swarna Andhra Vision-2047, Visakhapatnam district aims to achieve a 15 per cent growth rate in primary and secondary sectors while doubling its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contribution from the current Rs.4.5 lakh crore, he said.

Speaking at an interactive session on the growth of smart city Vizag during the three-day tenth Property Expo organised by CREDAI Vizag Chapter, Prasad outlined the district's ambitious roadmap for economic and infrastructural growth.

“Our focus includes boosting horticulture, vegetable, and fruit production to cater to this region. Additionally, food processing and fish exports will play a pivotal role in the primary sector, while greenfield project development will drive the secondary sector,” he said.

Highlighting measures to enhance the ease of doing business, he stated that “we’ve introduced a single-window system for streamlined, time-bound approvals. This initiative not only simplifies business processes but accelerates growth and investment in the region.”

The Collector elaborated on smart city initiatives, disclosing that significant funds are being allocated to underground drainage (UGD) projects, water supply, and beautification, including fountains at key junctions.

Credai-Vizag president applauded the district administration for addressing sand policy issues. “By opening more sand reaches and constantly monitoring supply chains, the administration has provided much-needed relief to the builder community, enabling us to expedite projects,” he said. VMRDA Commissioner KS Viswanathan highlighted plans for tourism and infrastructure development under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects. “Our goal is to boost tourism by creating facilities for adventure sports and convention spaces, ensuring tourists spend more time here. Additionally, we are focusing on comprehensive road development under the Master Plan, with all Road Development Projects (RDP) to be completed within a year,” he assured.

Joint Collector K Mayur Ashok outlined efforts to address land disputes and improve land management. “We are leveraging drone and rover technology to conduct accurate resurveying and refine Clause 22(A) processes, reducing litigation. The Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) also ensures swift action against troublemakers,” he explained.

Among others, KSRK Raju (Sai), chairman, V Sreenu honorary secretary and other office-bearers participated in the interactive session. The session underscored a shared commitment between the administration and stakeholders to drive economic growth, improve infrastructure, and position Visakhapatnam as a vibrant, globally competitive smart city.
