Hyderabad: Vijayawada, the vibrant city of Andhra Pradesh, experienced an extraordinary culinary year in 2024, marked by record-breaking food orders and innovative partnerships that elevated the dining experience. A highlight of the year was the city’s partnership with Swiggy and the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which transformed train journeys into delightful dining experiences.

Vijayawada’s love for food reached new heights, with chicken biryani emerging as the city’s top dish, with over 6.08 lakh orders placed. Breakfast staples like Veg Idli and Veg Dosa were also extremely popular, while sweet cravings led to indulgent orders of Chocolate Lava Cake and Belgian Chocolate Waffle. The city’s festive food culture was also prominent, with Haleem orders surging during Ramzan and traditional sweets like Kaja and Milk Cake marking Diwali celebrations. The city’s train station became a focal point for food lovers, as Vijayawada set a national record with the highest number of train meal orders through the IRCTC-Swiggy partnership, totaling 21,793 deliveries. Travelers flocked to comforting South Indian classics like masala dosa and idli, making train journeys feel like home.

The dining-out scene also saw growth, with over 21,000 diners utilising Swiggy Dineout, saving a combined 22.8 lakh. One notable diner spent 34,000 on a lavish meal at Gourmet Bar – Novotel, signaling a shift toward premium dining experiences.

Siddharth Bhakoo, Chief Business Officer at Swiggy, commented, "2024 was a year that highlighted India’s culinary diversity, and Vijayawada embraced every flavor. We're proud to be part of their food journey, making exceptional meals accessible across the city."
