Tomato, Chilli Prices Stablised In Andhra

Amaravati: Following timely intervention, the prices of tomatoes and chilli have started stabilising across Andhra Pradesh. The Centre has already promised a Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to come to the rescue of chilli farmers following an SOS from the State Government.
After a review meeting, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the Centre has agreed to procure chilli if the price per quintal drops below Rs11,781 and deplored the YSRCP for trying to politicise the issue.
The State has started procuring tomatoes, the prices of which crashed to Rs2 to Rs3 per kig following bumper production, procured it directly, purchased it at Rs.8 per kg and sold it by transporting it to nearby Rythu Bazaars at Rs12 a kg. Agriculture Minister K Atchan Naidu said tomatoes were acquired from the growers in Vizianagaram and Anakapalle and sold at Rythu Bazaars in Visakhapatnam and Godavari districts.
