In a surprising move, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has justified the demolition of actor Nagarjuna's convention hall, citing the Bhagavad Gita as his inspiration. The convention hall, located in Hyderabad, was razed to the ground by the Telangana government's bulldozers, sparking a heated debate.
The convention hall, owned by Tollywood superstar Nagarjuna, was allegedly built without necessary permits and encroached upon a lake bed. The government's action has been seen as a crackdown on illegal construction in the city.
Actor Nagarjuna, in his statement, however, has denied any wrongdoing and claimed that he had obtained all necessary permissions. The actor has also sought a stay on demolition and the court granted an interim stay.
Revanth Reddy Statement: On the Action
Revanth Reddy, known for his bold decisions, said at a function by the Hare Krishna Movement that the Bhagavad Gita is an inspiration to demolish illegal structures. Lord Krishna taught that for the good of the people, one should follow dharma in order to defeat adharma, even if it means to battle with one's friends.
In fact, opinions on Revanth Reddy's allusion to the Bhagavad Gita have been divided; while some have praised his audacious deed, others have criticized him for citing the antiquated book as justification for demolition. Because of his purported ties to competing parties, the opposition has charged that the government is specifically targeting Nagarjuna.
