A road accident involving a private travel bus near Rajahmundry claimed the life of a young woman from Visakhapatnam and left 20 others injured. The incident occurred late Wednesday night when the bus, operated by Kaveri Private Travels, overturned on the Gaman Bridge Road between Katheru and Konthamuru.
The bus, en route from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad, lost control and overturned around midnight. Emergency response was delayed, with police and rescue teams reaching the scene nearly an hour later. Six ambulances were dispatched to transport the injured to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Rajahmundry.
The passengers included mostly students, many under the age of 25, traveling for various purposes. Among them was Kalyani, a young woman from Visakhapatnam heading to Hyderabad for a job examination. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while three others in critical condition were shifted to Kakinada District Hospital for advanced treatment.
A total of 40 passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the accident. Rescuers, with the assistance of a crane, worked through the night to remove the overturned vehicle and free those trapped underneath. Survivors described the harrowing moments as they struggled to escape the wreckage.
Superintendent of Police Narasimha Kishore oversaw the rescue efforts and confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest the driver may have lost control due to fatigue or mechanical failure.
