visakhapatnam: In a bid to create awareness on nuclear energy, a special campaign under “Atom on Wheels” taken up for two months has evoked a big response, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) said here on Sunday.

Under the campaign, a dedicated mobile exhibition bus was flagged-off in presence of dignitaries. During November and December, more than 39,000 people were informed and made aware about various applications of nuclear energy through panels, LED TV, audio-video projection system and pamphlets.

The mobile exhibition covered the people by visiting schools, villages, markets, community centres, panchayat bhavans etc. of around 80 villages of more than 11 mandals of Srikakulam district. The exhibition saw a good participation from the school students, women, youth, gram panchayat members, villagers and employees of hospitals and other organisations.

As part of this special campaign, many educational/animation films on the scientific aspect of nuclear energy and safety were also shown in the exhibition and people were also made aware through creative leaflets on various subjects related to nuclear energy.

Besides, efforts were also made by the officials, accompanied in the bus to resolve the curiosities, apprehensions and doubts of the people regarding nuclear energy.

During the next two months, the mobile vehicle will cover the rest of the mandals of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram district and will educate thousands of the people of many villages in a phase wise manner.
