Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh government has made the stage set for launching of free LPG cylinder scheme by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Srikakulam on November 1.
The scheme, which is part of the Super Six promises, has come into force as the State has released the necessary funds for the Deepam-2.
Naidu on Wednesday handed over the funds to the gas companies' representatives that needs to be spent for the purpose. The Chief Minister handed over the subsidy amount to the representatives of Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum and Indian Oil Corporation at the first block in the State Secretariat.
The State government has decided to supply three cooking gas cylinders per year for all the eligible women in the State as promised by Naidu during the recent elections. The Cabinet at its recent meeting gave its consent for the total expenditure of Rs 2,684 crore per annum for the supply of these free cylinders.
The Chief Minister handed over the cheques to the petroleum companies’ representatives for an amount of Rs 894 crore as the current month's subsidy. The State government will be supplying a free cylinder for every four months as part of the Deepam-2 scheme and will be releasing the necessary funds as and when necessary.
The eligible beneficiaries can now book the cylinders since the facility came into force on Tuesday. The amount, Rs 876 excluding the Central subsidy of Rs 25, spent for the cylinder will be credited to the personal account of all the beneficiaries in just 48 hours.
