L&T Shipyard Holds Steel-Cutting Ceremony Of 3rd Fleet Support Ship

Visakhapatnam: The steel-cutting ceremony for the third in the series of five Fleet Support Ships bagged by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) was held at L&T Shipyard, Kattupalli.
As the Ministry of Defence has set the deadline for delivery commencing in mid-2027, HSL outsourced part of its project order to L&T. The order awarded to HSL in August, 2023, is worth Rs19,000 crore. This also helped HSL with a high order book position getting all its facilities busy with ship construction and repair works.
The steel-cutting function for the third FSS was held on Thursday in the presence of Rear Admiral Satish Shenai, Flag Officer Commanding, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area and senior officials from Indian Navy, HSL and L&T.
howcasing the strength of Public Private Partnership, HSL has contracted part construction of two FSS to L&T Shipyard, Kattupalli to effectively utilise the country's shipbuilding capacity and meet stringent timelines for delivery.
On induction, the FSS will bolster the Blue Water capabilities of the Indian Navy through replenishment of Fleet ships at sea.
