Hospitals Equipped To Handle Dengue Cases In Telangana
R Govind Hari, GS, TSHA
Hyderabad: Telangana Specialty Hospitals Association (TSHA) has issued a statement about the preparedness of public and private healthcare sector in the State to manage and treat dengue cases. TSHA has confirmed that Chikungunya is more prevalent than Dengue in Telangana.
R Govind Hari, General Secretary, TSHA, said that while it is too early to determine the potential complications of dengue this season, the Association is closely monitoring the situation. He went on to add, “Currently, Chikungunya cases have outnumbered Dengue, and we are also seeing a significant number of cases of Flu A, RSV, enteric fever infections. Dengue appears to be evolving into a milder illness, likely due to early detection and management.”
He further informed that there is no specific medicine available for Dengue, as it is treated based on supportive and symptomatic care. In severe cases of Dengue, such as Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), treatments like steroids or IV immunoglobulin are meant to be administered in the ICU.
An official TSHA press release mentioned that most of the seasonal viral infections can be managed with basic first aid, hence the Association has urged parents of young children to avoid overuse of Antibiotics, as they are not effective against viral infections and can lead to other complications.
