EPDCL Joins Hands With BEE To Promote Energy Efficiency
The power distribution company has committed to supporting the Union government's Mission LiFE initiative

Visakhapatnam: In support of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's commitment to the Union Government's Mission LiFE, Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd (EPDCL) has announced its resolved to implement various initiatives to foster sustainable living practices. The efforts will promote environmental conservation and sustainable development.
Headquartered in Visakhapatnam, EPDCL is committed to fostering sustainable living practices across its expansive distribution network.
Mission LiFE's focus on sustainability is poised to reduce pollution, improve public health, and decrease healthcare costs. Eco-conscious tourism initiatives will generate revenue for local communities while preserving natural resources. In alignment with the Union government's Mission LiFE initiative, EPDCL will actively engage communities in eco-friendly endeavors, according to a press release. The initiatives will prioritise waste reduction, water and energy conservation, the adoption of renewable energy sources, and the promotion of energy-efficient appliances certified by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). In collaboration with the BEE, which is under the Ministry of Power, and Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), EPDCL has decided to develop a comprehensive communication strategy.
The strategy will be designed in such a way to empower consumers across Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, East Godavari, and West Godavari districts to make informed choices. As highlighted by Prudhvi Tej, Chairman and Managing Director of EPDCL, the focus will be on a consumer-centric approach that inspires sustainable behavior. Recently, EPDCL unveiled the Mission LIFE promotional poster, designed by BEE's Media Adviser Wing for Southern States and Union Territories. The significant step was marked by the presence of key officials, including Praveen Gupta, Member of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Milind Deora, Secretary of BEE and AP power sector senior officials including Chandram, Bhaskar and Kumar Reddy.
The unwavering support of Chief Minister Naidu, and continuous monitoring of Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, and guidance of Special Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, coupled with the financial and technical backing of BEE, and consumer's cooperation will propel EPDCL's efforts to enhance energy efficiency and expand renewable energy sources, the release stated.
"We are fully committed to embracing Mission LiFE's potential to drive sustainable practices, stimulate economic growth, and deliver exceptional power supply across the region," pointed out Prudhvi Tej.
"By empowering consumers to adopt sustainable lifestyles, we will contribute to a cleaner, greener future while enhancing the economic vitality of EPDCL."Milind Deora commended the Andhra Pradesh government's dedication to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for sustainable development of effective power supply.
To further strengthen the Standards & Labeling Program across India, an agreement was signed in Delhi. This collaboration ensures the highest quality of energy-efficient appliances, promoting substantial energy savings. As of January 2024 the Standard & Labelled (S&L) Program covered 35 Energy Efficiency Appliances, resulted in savings of 81.64 billion units of energy savings translating to energy savings worth of Rs 54,324 crore, and reduced CO2 emissions by 58 million tonnes in 2022-23. Praveen Gupta, a member of the CEA, commended the AP government for hosting a regional workshop on the updated Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) trajectory and compliance process. The RPO is crucial for promoting renewable energy adoption, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and enhancing energy security and economic development.
Milind Deora urged distribution companies to integrate Mission LiFE into their long-term communication strategies. By fostering sustainable practices, the mission can boost the state economy, create green jobs, and stimulate demand for eco-friendly products and services. Additionally, it aims to spur innovation in green technologies, providing opportunities for local entrepreneurs and startups.
