Dedicated Stations To Tackle Cybercrime In AP: DGP
Srikakulam: To tackle the growing menace of cybercrime, Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Dwaraka Tirumala Rao on Tuesday announced the establishment of dedicated cybercrime police stations in every district. These stations will work with experts to create awareness among the public about cyber fraud and how to avoid falling victim to it. The DGP advised citizens not to trust unknown callers and to verify details before transferring money to avoid scams. Addressing the media during his visit to Srikakulam district, the police chief said the State police are leveraging technology to combat crime. The department plans to install one lakh CCTV cameras across the State by March 1, with the goal of monitoring and recording criminal activities.
These cameras will be installed in 2 lakh identified spots, with public and donor support playing a crucial role in the initiative. The ultimate objective is to ensure that every corner of the state is under surveillance, deterring crime and aiding in investigations. He provided insights into the crime situation in the State, emphasising the steps being taken by the police to maintain law and order. The DGP highlighted that while other crimes have seen a decline, cybercrimes are on the rise in Andhra Pradesh. He described cybercrime as a nationwide issue and stated that the State police are focusing on curbing such offences.
In addition to cybercrime, the DGP addressed the issue of ganja (cannabis) cultivation and trafficking. He expressed concern that the sources of ganja are primarily traced back to districts in North Andhra. The State government has formed a cabinet sub-committee to combat ganja cultivation and has launched awareness programs to prevent its growth and transportation.
