Consult Scientists On Industrial Safety

Visakhapatnam: Noted social activist and former IAS officer EAS Sarma on Tuesday asked Vasudha Misra, Chairman, High-Level Committee on Industrial Safety to consult scientists of prominence before submitting its report. In an email to Misra, he stated that the committee should go through the letter addressed to her by Scientists for People, a body of eminent scientists, working relentlessly for upholding the public interest in several areas of policy including the concerns that have arisen in regard to industrial safety. He contended that the inputs contained in the cited letter are based on domestic and global scientific evidence and the valuable knowledge and experience of all those who are signatories to it.

Stating that he fully endorsed the suggestions, he said, “I strongly recommend that the High Level Committee invites the representatives of Scientists for People for a face-to-face discussion, as such a discussion would help the committee to appreciate the scientific and technical aspects of the repeated occurrence of industrial accidents in Andhra Pradesh.”
