YSRCP alleged that the MLA’s close lieutenants at the behest of their leader had indulged in extortion and demanded contract works to their supporters. However, Adinarayan Reddy contended that the trouble sparked off as the people of the constituency only insisted on jobs for locals
Kadapa: The followers of Adinarayana Reddy, BJP MLA and former minister, created a ruckus by pelting stones at the camp office of Adani Group and attacking the vehicles deployed at Kondapuram Ragikuinta in Jammalamadugu Assembly constituency in Kadapa district on Tuesday. Talla Proddatur Police filed a case against them.
The incident created tension in the area as the supporters of the MLA allegedly took strong exception to commencement of work on 1,000-MW pumped storage power plant without taking him into consideration. While the YSRCP alleged that the MLA’s close lieutenants at the behest of their leader had indulged in extortion and demanded contract works to their supporters, Adinarayan Reddy contended that the trouble sparked off as the people of the constituency only insisted on jobs for locals.
The incident brought embarrassment to the TDP and the BJP leadership. Sources said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reprimanded the behaviour of the MLA as the incident sends wrong signals at a time when the TDP-led coalition was trying seriously to bring investments to Andhra Pradesh. The MLA later clarified that he was very keen on encouraging investors and accused the YSRCP of trying to engage in a character-assassination campaign.
The police registered the case after receiving a complaint from the Adani company officials. In the attack, the windowpanes of the camp office were broken. Stone-pelting also led to damage to some of the vehicles parked outside the office.
Meanwhile, Kadapa MP and YSRCP leader YS Avinash Reddy blamed the attack at the behest of the MLA and wondered how investors will come to Andhra Pradesh when the ruling coalition leaders indulge in extortion and blackmailing.
