Bird flu outbreak in Andhra Pradesh: Officials warn against consuming chicken and eggs

The bird flu virus is creating widespread concern in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in the Godavari districts and Krishna district. Reports indicate that lakhs of chickens have died due to the outbreak. The virus has now spread to Gampalagudem mandal in Krishna district, where over 10,000 chickens have perished in just two days.
Health Advisory and Government Action
Authorities have issued strict warnings, advising residents to avoid consuming chicken and eggs within a 10 km radius of the affected areas. Poultry farm owners have been instructed to cull infected birds to prevent further spread of the virus. Despite these concerns, experts reassure the public that properly cooked poultry at temperatures above 100°C poses no health risk.
Impact on Poultry Market
The outbreak has significantly impacted the poultry industry, causing chicken prices to plummet. In East Godavari district, where the virus has been confirmed in Kannur, the fear of bird flu has driven prices down from Rs. 220 per kg on Sunday to Rs. 150-170 by Tuesday. Many consumers are avoiding chicken purchases due to health concerns, further affecting the market.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, urging the public to stay informed and follow safety guidelines. As authorities work to contain the virus, further updates are expected in the coming days.
