AP’s Success Story In Energy Efficiency Becomes Talking Point At SACEF 2024
The State has adopted super-efficient appliances to reduce energy consumption

Vijayawada: The pioneering initiative taken by Andhra Pradesh in implementation of energy efficiency strategies hogged the limelight at the South Asia Clean Energy Forum (Jaipur, Rajasthan) (SACEF) 2024, Conference organised recently by USAID.
Among the many success stories shared at the event, Andhra Pradesh was prominently recognised for its pioneering energy efficiency initiatives, setting a national benchmark for sustainable practices.
Andhra Pradesh received accolades for its transformative approach to energy efficiency, particularly through the adoption of super-efficient appliances. These efforts have significantly reduced energy consumption, contributing to the state’s sustainability goals and global climate change mitigation efforts.
During a panel discussion on ‘Market Transformation for Super-Efficient Appliances,’ Vishal Kapoor, CEO of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), underscored Andhra Pradesh’s accomplishments. “The journey toward energy efficiency is a collective effort,” said Kapoor. “The success of Andhra Pradesh demonstrates the power of collaboration. EESL is proud to partner with the State in fostering innovations that drive sustainable development,” he remarked.
The partnership between Andhra Pradesh and EESL, a joint venture under India’s Ministry of Power, has played a critical role in the State’s energy efficiency advancements. This collaboration has yielded a comprehensive roadmap for future initiatives, with the support of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s vision and EESL’s resources, according to A Chandrasekhar Reddy, Media Advisor, Southern India, BEE.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Jain, Special Chief Secretary, Housing, Andhra Pradesh, highlighted the State’s ambitious ‘Housing for All’ initiative, which aims to provide affordable housing to all eligible households by 2029. As part of this mission, Andhra Pradesh is facilitating access to cost-effective, energy-efficient appliances to reduce electricity costs and enhance the sustainability of homes.
Jain noted, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Naidu, we are committed to achieving housing for all and supporting our communities with energy-efficient solutions. These appliances not only lower electricity bills but also improve the quality of life for our citizens.”
EESL Chief General Manager (Sales & PR) Animesh announced that EESL will make provision of essential lighting and cooling solutions to 3,00,000 low-income households in Andhra Pradesh, with each family receiving 4 LED bulbs,2 tube lights, and 2 fans voluntarily at highly cost effective prices .“Our collaboration with Andhra Pradesh is transforming lives by improving energy efficiency and living standards in these communities,” he said.
He also reflected on Andhra Pradesh’s resilience after the devastating Hudhud Cyclone in 2014. The State partnered with EESL to rebuild Visakhapatnam’s infrastructure, launching an ambitious LED street lighting project that has significantly reduced the city’s electricity consumption.
