Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh State Regulatory Commission (APERC) has emphasised the urgent need for accelerating energy efficiency and energy conservation with the active participation of all categories of consumers.

Recognising the significance of conservation and reduce greenhouse emissions, the commission suggested adopting a special mechanism to fully involve the women's community in reaching the desired goals of achieving a minimum of 20 per cent energy savings, said Thakur Ram Singh, APERC Chairman on the eve of Indo-German National Summit being held here on February 20 and 21 on energy efficiency. He along with APERC Member PVR Reddy wished the event a grand success. The Chairman earlier released a report on energy efficiency presented by A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, Media Adviser, Southern States/UTs, Bureau of Energy Efficiency and BAV Kumar Reddy CEO of APSECM.

Realising the immediate need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support thenNational movement on energy conservation, the Chairman suggested that the Discoms, APSECM, the Special Designated Agencies (SDA) of the State conduct special programs to involve the self-help groups (SHG) deeply and spread the strong message of energy and water conservation so that the entire society will benefit from reduced Greenhouse gas emissions. The Chairman appreciated the efforts and support of national agencies such as BEE and EESL in helping AP power utilities accelerate energy efficiency, which helped the State get national recognition and mentioned how APERC is at the forefront of promoting energy efficiency and energy conservation measures in Andhra Pradesh.
