AP Government Releases New Ration Cards: Eligibility Criteria, Application Procedure, and Key Deadlines
AP Introduces New Ration Cards and Discontinues Old Ones: Apply by December 28 to obtain updated cards and access eligibility for welfare schemes.
Ration Cards
The Andhra Pradesh government has made a significant announcement regarding the issuance of new ration cards, releasing guidelines for the process. Effective immediately, applications for new ration cards and modifications to existing ones will be accepted. Old ration cards will be cancelled and replaced with newly designed ones featuring the official state emblem. The application period will remain open until December 28, with the distribution of new cards scheduled for the Sankranti festival. Given the importance of ration cards for accessing various welfare schemes, a high volume of applications is anticipated.
Many beneficiaries in Andhra Pradesh have been eagerly awaiting the rollout of new ration cards, particularly during the YSRCP regime, which saw a surge in demand. The government aims to approve and distribute these new cards by the forthcoming Sankranti festival, with applications starting today. As part of this initiative, old ration cards issued in the YSRCP colours will be replaced. The government plans to finalise eligibility criteria in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Ration cards serve as a key to accessing welfare schemes, and the government has confirmed that all eligible beneficiaries will receive new cards. Modifications to existing cards will also be permitted.
Eligible individuals are encouraged to apply at their respective village or ward secretariats starting today. Once all applications are reviewed, the new ration cards will be awarded to eligible recipients by Sankranti. Given that ration cards are essential for accessing welfare programs, a substantial number of beneficiaries are expected to coordinate their applications. It’s important to note that holding a rice card is necessary to participate in the Super Six welfare initiatives. Ration cards have been mandated by state and central governments for all welfare schemes.
In previous administrations, the issuance of new ration cards was stalled, and modifications were not allowed. To remedy this, the current government will introduce cards for newly married individuals and provide opportunities for necessary modifications. With these new options, officials estimate a significant increase in the number of rice cards issued. Applications will be accepted not only at secretariats but also through the official website of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Department until December 28.
