The coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, which came to power eight months ago, is exploring ways to boost revenue. As part of this effort, the state is gearing up to recover all pending municipal taxes through a special drive. Senior officials from the municipal administration department have issued guidelines to commissioners on how to proceed with the initiative.

Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Suresh Kumar held a review meeting with officials to assess the status of pending taxes across municipalities. He gathered details from officials regarding outstanding dues and directed them to take immediate action for recovery. As a part of this, a special tax collection drive has been announced.

The drive will focus on recovering property tax and vacant land tax, which have been significantly undercollected, leading to major revenue deficits for municipalities. Commissioners have been instructed to issue notices to owners of vacant properties who have failed to pay taxes. Additionally, each municipality will release a public list of pending taxpayers to raise awareness and encourage compliance.

To motivate officials, municipal commissioners who achieve the highest tax collections will be rewarded with cash incentives and other benefits. With these measures in place, the special drive is expected to begin soon.
