Machilipatnam: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday called upon all sections of the people to turn as Swachh service representatives and make a resolve to take the State as Swachh Andhra Pradesh by 2029 and announced the decision to scrap tax being collected by the civic authorities on garbage collection and make Bandar Port operational during the end of 2025.

“Everyone should move forward with a goal and respect the sanitary workers as they are the Swach servants. No one should talk ill of them,” the Chief Minister said while taking part in the ‘Swachata Hi Seva’ programme that was held here on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi. He personally served tea to the sanitary workers and had an interaction with them on the occasion.

Later addressing the public, he gave the entire credit of a clean environment and neat roads to the sanitary workers. “We are now feeling so healthy and are moving on neat roads only because of the hard work of the sanitary workers. I wholeheartedly appreciate their efforts,” Naidu said. He particularly mentioned their earnest and energetic work of the sanitary staff members during the recent cyclone.

The Chief Minister said that the Clean and Green programme was taken up in 1998 in combined Andhra Pradesh, which he said is close to his heart. He declared that the tax on garbage will be scrapped and said that he is ordering the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P Narayana, to take urgent steps to remove the garbage in the coming 365 days in the whole State. The issue of removal of garbage tax will be passed by the Cabinet soon, he added.

Amid loud applause, he told the media that the Bandar Port will be made operational in 2025. After reviewing progress of the port development, he said they will allot 38.32 acres additionally for the port. He blamed the previous government for not taking up work on the Rs 3,669 crore Machilipatnam (Bandar) Port project.

He said the NDA government is firm to complete the Bundar Port by December 2025 and said that it will be of great help to the people of this area. By 2047 the State will become Swarna Andhra and everyone can generate power through solar systems on their own, the Chief Minister maintained.
