NASA has released a critical alert regarding asteroid 2024 PQ5, a near-Earth object that is predicted to close in on Earth. An urgent warning has been released by NASA regarding asteroid 2024 PQ5, a near-Earth object that is predicted to pass closest to Earth on August 20. This space rock, which is 140 feet wide and about the size of a house, will pass by Earth at a distance of roughly 3.2 million miles.

The Apollo group of asteroids, including 2024 PQ5, regularly passes through Earth's orbit. At an astounding speed of about 28,128 miles per hour, the asteroid is moving towards Earth. To put things in better perspective, the asteroid will fly by three times the distance of the Moon's orbit around the Earth. Despite this, NASA pays close attention to it since its closeness designates it as a near-Earth object (NEO).

To keep an eye on these NEOs, NASA works with other space agencies and has an extensive telescope network and sophisticated computer systems. Although the majority of these objects are not dangerous, those that are larger than 460 feet (140 meters) and that are within 7.5 million kilometres of Earth are examined more closely.

NASA's Centre for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) is in charge of monitoring these asteroids and determining any possible risks they may pose. This careful observation guarantees that we stay informed and ready for any potential space threats.
