Tahawwur Rana, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, has appealed to the US Supreme Court for an urgent stay on his extradition to India, claiming he faces a high risk of torture and death if transferred.

In his plea, Rana argued that his Pakistani origin, Muslim identity, and alleged links to Pakistan would make him a target in India. He warned that if the US courts lost jurisdiction over him, he would "soon be dead," ANI reported.

Health Concerns Cited

Rana also highlighted severe health issues, including a 3.5 cm abdominal aortic aneurysm, Parkinson's disease with cognitive decline, and a possible bladder cancer diagnosis.

US Approval of Extradition

The US government has already approved Rana’s extradition to India, with former President Donald Trump previously referring to him as "very evil." The Supreme Court recently rejected a review petition filed by Rana, increasing the likelihood of his transfer.

26/11 Links & Past Allegations

Rana is known to be a close associate of Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley, a key conspirator in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. He has alleged ties to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI.

Meanwhile, India is actively working on the logistics of his extradition as legal proceedings continue.
