Gold futures rose Rs48 to Rs62,463 per 10 grams as speculators created fresh positions on firm spot demand. Silver futures marginally fell by Rs79 to Rs75,407 per kilogram as participants reduced their bets.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold contracts for February delivery traded higher by Rs48 or 0.08 per cent at Rs62,463 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 14,912 lots. Fresh positions built up by participants led to a rise in gold prices, analysts said. Globally, gold futures marginally fell to $2,047.50 per ounce in New York.

On MCX, silver contracts for March delivery marginally declined by Rs79 or 0.01 per cent to Rs75,407 per kg in a business turnover of 14,831 lots. Globally, silver was trading 0.19 per cent lower at $24.59 per ounce in New York.
