The Indian stock market which includes those of the BSE as well as the NSE will be operating stock market open on February 19. However, the closing and clearing of stocks as well as funds will be closed because of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on 19 February.

Trading in equity, derivatives, as well as securities borrowing and lending (SLB) will continue as normal. However, the settlement process that includes pay-ins and outs of funds and stocks, will be closed.

BSE has proclaimed February 19 as a day of non-business for liquid and debenture mutual funds. Orders made in liquid and debt mutual funds schemes on the 19th of February will be processed and sent to registrars on February 20.

"The subscription orders for all Debt, Liquid Mutual Fund schemes and L1 and L0 categories of schemes will be received in February 19th of 2025 and then sent to the Registrars of the respective schemes on the following business day. The orders will be listed on the Provisional Order Report with the Order date set as February 19 2025. In the Order Status Report, the date of the order will be listed in the order report at February 20, 2025," sad in the circular.

What investors should be aware of for the trades on February 18 and 19

For those who trade on the 18th and 19th of February Here's what they should keep in mind:

  • Buy shares: Stocks purchased on these days will appear in the demat account on February 20.
  • Shares sold: Funds earned from sales of stock will be paid on the 20th of February.
  • Intraday profit: Any intraday profits made on February 18, will not be included in the balance of the account until February 19.
  • BTST (Buy Today, Sell Tomorrow) limitations: Investors cannot sell shares that were purchased on February 18, because settlement will be completed on the 20th of February.

Why February 19 is considered a settlement holiday?

Settlement stock market holiday today are when trading is in full swing however, the clearing of funds and stocks is suspended because banks or the depositories (NSDL as well as CDSL) are closed. Because banks in Maharashtra are celebrating a holiday on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti settlement operations will resume on the following day.
