Sensex and Nifty suffered losses for the fourth consecutive day. FMCG and auto shares faced selling pressure as major companies announced disappointing results. Continued foreign sales hurt sentiment. The rupee ended flat at 84.07 against the dollar. A barrel of crude oil was trading at $76.45, up 1.99%. While Tokyo gained in Asian markets, Seoul, Shanghai and Seoul lost. European indices traded in gains.
The Sensex opened the morning at 80,098.30, up 17 points (previous close 80,081.98). The index, which fell to a low of 79,813.02 points in early trading, later recovered. It touched a high of 80,259.82 at one stage, but finally ended with a loss of 16.82 points at 80,065.16. The Nifty settled down 36.10 points at 24,399.40. The index fluctuated between 24,341.20- 24,480.65 points intraday.
11 out of 30 shares of the Sensex traded. Nestlé lost 2.88%, ITC 1.81%, Maruti 1.61%, Asian Paints 0.65%, TCS 0.46%, Infosys 0.38%. Ultratech gained 2.77%, M&M 1.35%, Titan 1.28%, SBI 1.15%, Adani Ports 1.02% and NTPC 0.86%. In the sector-wise indices, FMCG fell by 2.66%, real estate by 1.21%, telecom by 1.02%, IT by 0.64% and industrials by 0.62%. Healthcare, banking, power, commodities, energy and utilities all shined. On BSE, 2349 scrips ended in losses while 1584 scrips gained. No change in 100 shares.

Losses for HUL stock: HUL shares traded lower as the results did not impress investors. The stock closed at Rs 2,502.95 with a loss of 5.83% on the BSE. The market value of the company decreased by Rs.36,430.41 crore to Rs.5.88 lakh crore.
Adani Wilmar runs: Shares of Adani Wilmar jumped 8% intraday to touch a high of Rs 344.60 after it reported a profit of Rs 311 crore for the September quarter. Finally closed at Rs.340.30 with a gain of 6.71%.
Shares of Adani Total Gas rose 7.82% to close at Rs 755.25. The market value of the company increased by Rs.6,026.97 crore to Rs.83,063.16 crore.
