Stock Market Today: Sensex above 80,000 again

The indices have recovered strongly from the consecutive losses of the last five days. In addition to the positive international signals, domestic institutional investors have joined the buying spree at lower levels. The rupee closed at 84.07 paisa against the dollar. Crude oil price was down 5.84% to trade at $71.54 a barrel. Asian markets closed higher, while European indices traded flat.

• As indices recovered, the total market value of listed companies on the BSE, considered investor wealth, rose by Rs 4.21 lakh crore to Rs 441.20 lakh crore ($5.25 lakh crore) overnight on Monday. Investor wealth hit a lifetime high of Rs 477.93 lakh crore on September 27.
• The Sensex opened the morning at 79,653.67 points with a gain of 251 points (previous close 79,402.29). The index, which continued the momentum, surged 1,137.52 points at one stage to hit a high of 80,539.81. As selling pressure was met at the highs, it finally closed at 80,005.04 with a gain of 602.75 points. Nifty rose 158.35 points to settle near 24,339.15 points.
• 24 out of 30 shares of the Sensex gained. Adani Ports 2.80%, JSW Steel 2.68%, Tata Steel 2.50%, M&M 2.36%, Sunpharma 2.28%, HUL 1.89%, SBI 1.74%, Tata Motors 1.66%, Asian Paints 1.41%, Bajaj Finserv 1.35%, HCL Tech 1.34%, NTPC performed 1.23%. Axis Bank lost 1.43%, Kotak Bank 1.08%, Tech Mahindra .072% and HDFC Bank lost 0.48%.

Vari Energies Adaraho: Shares of solar panel maker Vari Energies rallied on debut. The share opened trading at Rs 2,550, a gain of 69.66% compared to the issue price of Rs 1503. It rose 72.98% intraday to hit a high of Rs 2,600. Finally, it gained 55.47% and closed at Rs.2,336.80. The market value of the company is Rs.67,132.34 crores.

• Registration of shares of Deepak Builders and Engineers India was disappointing. The stock opened at Rs 198.50 on BSE, a loss of 2.21% compared to the issue price of Rs 203. It lost 21.10% intraday to touch a low of Rs.160.15. Finally, it fell by 20.24% to close at Rs.161.90. The market value of the company is Rs.754.14 crores.
• SEBI has given permission to IPOs of NTPC Green Energy and Avansey Financial Services. NTPC Green Energy is expected to raise Rs 10,000 crore and Avanse Rs 3,500 crore through the IPO.

FIR against GoFirst ex-MD dismissed: The Bombay High Court has dismissed the case filed against former GoFirst MD Wolfgang Prack on charges of data theft. The court said there was no evidence against him.

• Suzlan Vice Chairman Girish Tanti has been appointed as the Chairman of Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA). Saravanan Manikam, Country Head of Nordex will act as Vice Chairman and Secretary of the association. Windar Renewable Energy CEO K. Bharati will be the treasurer.

• Shares of ICICI Bank rose 4.16% to touch a high of Rs 1,307.80 intraday. It finally closed at Rs.1,292.65 with a gain of 2.96%. The company's market value increased by Rs 26,445.04 crore to Rs 9.11 lakh crore.
• Shares of InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo), which registered a loss of Rs 986.7 crore, fell 8% to settle at Rs 4,015.50. The market value of the company decreased by Rs.13,481.88 crore to Rs.1.55 lakh crore.
• Shares of Punjab National Bank, which registered more than double the gains, rose 2.97% to close at Rs 98.65.
