Nifty hits 25,000 mark, signaling confidence in NDA Government, says NSE chief
The Nifty 50 index surpassed the 25,000 mark for the first time, marking a significant milestone. This achievement comes 221 trading days after reaching the 20,000 level on September 11, 2023.
National Stock Exchange (NSE) MD and CEO Ashish Chauhan remarked that the Nifty’s ascent to 25,000 reflects a strong vote of confidence in the current NDA government and suggests continued optimism for the next five years. Chauhan noted that the index's rise from 20,000 to 25,000 occurred in just 11 months, compared to the 19 months it took to move from 15,000 to 20,000, indicating accelerating growth.
Over the past year, Nifty has delivered returns of over 26%, outperforming the S&P 500 and Sensex, which gained 20% and 22%, respectively. Chauhan attributed this growth to positive market sentiments and recent budgetary measures aimed at boosting economic growth.
He highlighted that India’s vibrant market, now the fourth largest globally by market capitalization, reflects investor confidence in the country's economic future. Chauhan also noted that financialization trends, such as those driven by UPI, are contributing to increased investment in equities, fostering a cycle of job creation and economic growth.
