Indian stock market closed on March 31 or April 1 for Eid-ul-Fitr?

The Indian stock market will observe a holiday on Monday, March 31, 2025, for Eid-ul-Fitr, as confirmed by the holiday calendars of both the NSE (National Stock Exchange) and BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange). However, the commodity derivatives segment will resume trading in the evening session.
Stock Market Performance in FY25
The Indian stock market wrapped up FY 2024-25 with a 5% gain, despite earlier concerns over economic uncertainties, including U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies. After five consecutive months of losses, investor sentiment improved in March, supported by better macroeconomic indicators and the return of Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs).
Market Closure Clarification
While Eid-ul-Fitr in India will be observed either on March 31 or April 1, depending on the moon sighting, the stock exchanges have already set March 31, 2025, as the official market holiday.
Equity and currency derivatives markets will be completely closed on March 31.
Commodity derivatives trading will be paused for the morning session but will reopen at 5 PM for evening trading, continuing until 11:30 or 11:55 PM.
Upcoming Stock Market Holidays in 2025
Following Eid, the next market holidays include:
April 10 (Thursday): Shri Mahavir Jayanti
April 14 (Monday): Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti
April 18 (Friday): Good Friday
May 1 (Thursday): Maharashtra Day
August 15 (Friday): Independence Day
More holidays follow later in the year, including for Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, and Christmas.
With the stock market set to reopen on April 1, 2025, all eyes will be on whether the positive momentum from March continues into the new financial year.
