States need to GI-tag food, beverages

Kolkata: The Indian alcoholic beverage sector on Wednesday laid stress on GI-tagging approach for food and beverage products by States, as this will help in achieving better price realisation in overseas markets.

The alcobev industry is poised to grow by around six per cent CAGR (compound annual growth rate) to reach $63 billion in the next five years from the current size of $51.7 billion, International Spirits and Wines Association of India Chief Executive Officer Nita Kapoor said.

She was talking to PTI on the sidelines of a session on ‘Agriculture and Allied Including Blue Economy’ at the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS).
