Sensex soared by 355 points during Muhurat Trading, leading to a wealth surge of over Rs 2.22 lakh crore for investors.
On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, buyers flocked to Dalal Street, propelling benchmark indices higher despite lower trading volumes. The BSE Sensex witnessed a gain of 354.77 points or 0.55 percent, reaching 65,259.45, while the NSE Nifty 50 index saw a rise of 0.52 percent or 100.20 points, reaching 19,525.55.
In just 60 minutes of trading, the total market capitalization of BSE-listed companies escalated to Rs 322.52 lakh crore, adding Rs 2.22 lakh crore to investors' wealth. This implies that investors' wealth increased by Rs 62 crore every second during the trading session.
The broader markets outperformed, with the Nifty Smallcap 100 gaining 1.14 percent and the Nifty Midcap rising by 0.61 percent. The Nifty 500, the most comprehensive index on NSE, recorded a 0.61 percent increase.
All sectoral indices closed in positive territory, with Nifty Media and Nifty IT being the top gainers, each surging by 0.7 percent. Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Metal also experienced substantial gains.
Coal India emerged as the biggest gainer among the Nifty 50 index, rising by about 3 percent on the back of its Q2 earnings performance. Other notable gainers included UPL, Infosys, Eicher Motors, Wipro, and NTPC, all registering gains of up to 2 percent.
However, some stocks, such as Britannia, Apollo Hospitals, LTIMindtree, and Sun Pharma, closed in the red.
Motilal Oswal, Group MD & CEO of Motilal Oswal Financial Services, expressed optimism for the start of Hindu Samvat 2080, citing strong earnings and a healthy economic outlook. Despite economic headwinds and global geopolitical concerns, Samvat 2079 concluded with the Nifty gaining around 10 percent.
While the positive momentum is expected to continue into Samvat 2080, experts caution investors to remain vigilant, especially in the face of elevated valuations. Prudent investment strategies, including booking profits at high valuations and re-entering at reasonable levels, are recommended to navigate potential market volatility
