Mumbai: In a humanitarian gesture, the unit holders of Santacruz Electronic Export Process Zone (SEEPZ) donated Rs1.21 crore to Tata Memorial Hospital. The exemplary gesture was the highlight of the three-day blood donation drive kick-started on October 1 as part of the SEEPZ Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Of the 5,000 people, who registered themselves for the voluntary blood donation drive, as many as 2,000 did so on the very first day. It will come as a Godsend for the patients in need as it would generate 5,000 units of additional blood.
What makes the Golden Jubilee celebrations noteworthy is the SEEPZ did not resort to any pomp and glitter to celebrate the occasion but rather chose to be solemn and dedicate this effort to a noble cause.
The efforts of the unit holders came in for special praise as the donations for the Tata Hospital far exceeded the expectations of the authority. Buoyed with the thundering response to the blood donation drive, the SEEPZ authorities also contemplated holding a Marathon in the future. A music-based programme Sanskruti Ke Rang, SEEPZ Ke Sang Aur Cancer Se Jung to commemorate the birth anniversary of Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi was scheduled as part of the day's celebrations later.
