Visakhapatnam: Tension gripped Ukkunagaram following blockade of administrative building of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited-the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant by the agitating employees on Tuesday.
Raising slogans "Visakha Ukku Andhrula Hakku" and "Modi down down" the employees braving intermittent rains staged the protest for two and half hours against the decision to privatise RINL. Incidentally, the protests against 100 per cent disinvestment entered 187th day on Tuesday.
Armed with the umbrellas, the agitators blocked all lanes leading to the administrative building, which houses the chambers of Directors and Chairman-cum-Managing Director.
Large number of policemen were deployed to ward off any untoward incident.
Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Samiti chairman Ch Nursing Rao said they would not allow anyone to enter the steel plant premises to make any enquiry for buying RINL.
