Hyperlocal delivery platform Dunzo has seen a sharp rise in orders for medicines and groceries in 2021, recorded a growth of more than 300 percent in each category.

Since January 2021, it has recorded a growth of 350 percent in orders for medicines as of April 2021, the company said in a statement. During the same period, orders for groceries, fresh produce and daily staples grew 318 percent.

"Between March'21 to May'21, Dunzo has delivered over 20,000 orders to hospitals. This, coupled with the delivery of home-cooked meals, oximeters, and other medical aid has led to an exponential growth of 204 percent in Dunzo's pick up and drop orders," the company said.

During the second COVID-19 wave in the country, many have been using Dunzo to deliver home-cooked meals, medical aid, and other essentials.

The Bengaulur-based company also said its business-to-business (B2B) vertical grew two times after the company worked with volunteers, NGOs, and other organisations to deliver essentials.

The company plans to set up 250 micro-fulfillment centres to serve 700 plus neighbourhoods and aims to expand operations to 20 cities by 2022.

"Deploying 250 micro-fulfillment centers to serve 700 plus neighborhoods, Dunzo's MFCs will house the top 1,500 SKUs from local merchants which would enable a more consistent ordering experience as well as deliveries under 20 minutes," the company said.
