Mumbai: Even as CBDT, the apex body of Income-Tax (I-T) Department, has extended deadline for filing of return, still experts demand further extension.

'On consideration of difficulties reported by the taxpayers and other stakeholders in filing of Income-Tax Returns (ITR) and various reports of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22 under the Income-tax Act, 1961, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to further extend the due dates for filing of Income-Tax Returns and various reports of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22, CBDT said in a statement.

Talking to Bizz Buzz, tax expert, CA Abhishek Aneja said: "The due dates have been extended since the Income-Tax Department and Infosys have not been able to get the New-Income Tax Portal -incometax.gov.in to function in an error free mode.

It's good to see the timely action by the Income Tax Department. However, a realistic deadline for the website to start functioning should be by the end of September so that the Income Tax Returns can be filed smoothly by the taxpayers in the extended time otherwise more extensions may still be required."
