On Thursday, the Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) board approved a bonus issue in the ratio of 1:1.

So Reliance Industries shareholders, as on the record date set by the company, will receive one bonus, RIL said in a regulatory filing.

The record date will be announced separately by the company. RIL also proposed raising the authorised share capital from Rs 15,000 crore to Rs 50,000 crore.

“The issuance and the listing of bonus shares will coincide with the upcoming festive season in India and will be an early Diwali Gift to all our esteemed shareholders,’’ Reliance said.

This is the sixth bonus issue from the Mukesh Ambani-led company.

In 2017, RIL distributed bonus shares at a 1:1 ratio. This was succeeded by a rights issue in 2020.

In July 2023, Jio Financial Services Ltd (JFS) was separated from the parent company.

The announcement regarding this bonus issue was made during the 47th annual general meeting (AGM) on August 29.
