Komic, World's highest village connected by a motorable road! a sabbatical for summer

Komic Village, nestled in the serene Spiti Valley, holds the prestigious title of being Asia's highest village connected by a motorable road. Perched at a breathtaking altitude of 4587 meters (15027 feet) above sea level, Komic's name translates to the "eye of a snowcock" in the local language, reflecting its lofty position amidst the snow-clad peaks.

This remote village, like many others in Spiti Valley, is predominantly inhabited by followers of Buddhism. Its allure to travelers stems not only from its record-breaking elevation but also from its proximity to other fascinating destinations like Langza Village, renowned as the Fossil Village of India, and Hikkim Village, home to the highest post office in the world.

Reaching Komic Village requires traversing either of two routes, one via Shimla and the other via Manali. While the journey from Delhi to Komic via Shimla spans approximately 772 kilometers, the route via Manali covers around 754 kilometers. Although the road via Shimla may be rougher, the route via Manali is the preferred choice for most travelers due to its smoother accessibility. Regardless of the chosen route, the journey culminates in Kaza, the primary settlement in the vicinity, where an overnight stay is recommended before embarking on the final leg of the journey to Komic.

From Kaza, a day excursion leads to Komic, situated roughly 19 kilometers away via Hikkim Village. Alternatively, travelers can opt for a slightly longer route passing through Langza Village. Despite its remote location, Komic and its surroundings offer a wealth of natural beauty and tranquility, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts.

Among the few man-made attractions in Komic is the Tangyud Monastery, belonging to the Sakya sect and renowned as one of the highest and oldest monasteries in the valley. Perched on the edge of a canyon, the monastery boasts a distinctive architectural charm. Additionally, nearby attractions like Langza Village, known for its fossil discoveries, and Hikkim Village, boasting the highest post office, offer intriguing insights into the region's cultural and natural heritage.
