Kewal Kiran Clothing Ltd, the maker of Killer Jeans, has initiated legal action against Netflix in the Bombay High Court, alleging trademark infringement. The dispute arises from the streaming giant's use of the term "Killer" in its series title and promotional material for 'Killer Soup,' featuring Manoj Bajpayee and Konkana Sen Sharma.
The clothing company is seeking damages of up to Rs 25 crore and the removal of any content that violates its trademark. The first court hearing is scheduled for Monday, March 11.
'Killer Soup,' a quirky crime drama released on Netflix on January 11, 2024, received critical acclaim. However, KKCL's lawyers issued notices to Netflix and the series producer, Macguffin Pictures, demanding the removal of the word "Killer" from the title and promotional materials.
In a press release on March 9, KKCL stated that it had filed a lawsuit against the makers of 'Killer Soup' for infringing its trademark. Netflix has not yet responded officially to the allegations.
The case highlights significant issues regarding trademark rights and brand protection in the entertainment industry. Netflix, as of now, is examining the matter without admitting to any allegations.
