Swiggy has unveiled its 2024 year-end report, shedding light on the country’s evolving food ordering habits. Biryani continues to dominate as the most-ordered dish, with 83 million orders placed between January 1 and November 22. Hyderabad emerged as the city with the highest number of biryani orders, recording 9.7 million, followed by Bengaluru at 7.7 million and Chennai with 4.6 million.
During Ramadan 2024, Swiggy facilitated around 6 million plates of biryani orders, according to the report. The dish also ranked as the second-most preferred choice for late-night orders between 12 and 2 am, with chicken burgers taking the top spot in this category. A notable anecdote from the report involves a Kolkata-based Swiggy user who ordered biryani at 4:01 am on January 1, 2024.
Swiggy’s collaboration with the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) enabled food delivery services at designated railway stations. Biryani emerged as a favorite among train passengers, further cementing its position as a go-to meal across diverse settings. The report also highlighted the popularity of snacks on the platform. Chicken rolls were the most-ordered snack, with 2.48 million orders, followed by chicken momos at 1.63 million and potato fries at 1.3 million.
Swiggy’s findings align with trends observed on other platforms. Zomato’s 2023 year-end report revealed biryani as the most-ordered dish on New Year’s Eve.
