India vs Australia Test Series 2024: Cricket Australia announces venue details
Cricket Australia have come up with a provisional schedule of India’s tour of Australia, that will commence at the end of the year. The Optus Stadium in Perth might host the first Test, while the Adelaide Oval, The Gabba, Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), and Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) will play host to the remaining four Test matches.
Although Cricket Australia is yet to release the schedule for the upcoming season, an announcement is likely at the end of the month, according to a Cricket Australia spokesman.
Following tradition, the second Test match at the Adelaide Oval would be a day-night affair. The Boxing Day Test match will be held at Melbourne, while the New Year’s Test match will be played at the SCG.
The series is part of the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle, with India losing the first World Test Championship final to New Zealand and the second one to Australia.
Cricket Australia, along with Western Australia Cricket Association, have a lot of plans up their sleeve to improve the attendance at the Optus Stadium, with the new 60,000 seater not seeing more than 17,000 to 18,000 fans for a Test match. While the attendance slightly goes up to 30,000 for a Perth Scorchers Big Bash League match, the stadium being sparsely occupied for Test matches is a worry for the Australian cricketing board.
After the Indian cricket team’s tour to Australia, England will travel Down Under for their Ashes series. The two series are expected to significantly raise revenues and also have more fan engagement in the country.
India’s last two tours to Australia have been successful ones, with India reigning supreme in 2018-19 and 2020-21 with an identical 2-1 margin.
